I paint patterns inspired by the nature
I’m Julia, a Polish artist and surface pattern designer based in Portugal.
I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a degree in Graphic Design. After university, I spent years working mostly in front of a screen. Somewhere along the way, I realised I had moved too far away from the thing that made me feel most like myself: painting.
So I picked up my brushes again.
That decision eventually led me to surface pattern design — a space where painting, storytelling and design could exist together.
How I work
Hand first. Digital second.
Immersion in nature
I start by immersing myself in nature — observing the colours, shapes, textures and little details that catch my eye. I photograph what inspires me and collect these moments as the starting point for my work.
Hand Painting
Most of my motifs begin with paint, pencil and paper. I enjoy the imperfections, textures and unexpected details that come from working by hand.
Digital
Once the artwork feels right, I bring it into the digital world. This is where I develop the composition, create the repeat and explore colourways for the final application.
Philosophy

I’m interested in how patterns change the feeling of a space.
Colour, rhythm, scale and repetition can make a space feel playful, calm, warm or full of energy.
This is what keeps me fascinated by pattern design — the possibility of turning a simple painted motif into something that becomes part of someone’s everyday surroundings.
